…Jesus, tired from the journey, sat down… (John 4:6)
I think too often we forget the humanity of the Lord. I think this is because the very fact that He lived as we do, here on this earth, makes Him all too real. The humanity of Jesus presents us all with the crisis of deciding what we will do about Him. Will we receive His offer for relationship?
But, the fact remains, He did live a fully human life. He breathed in and out. He ate food. He drank water. He had a family. He wept. He slept, and in the morning He would get dressed for the day before Him. He became tired while on a journey. And one day He died.
Are you tired from the journey you are on? Have you lost hope in your journey as you move one day closer to the grave. Jesus knows. He sees you on that very journey. For while He was fully human, He also is fully God. Being, fully human, He lived a human life and He understands everything we face. Everything, right up to the agony of the knowledge of death and of death itself. It is true that He died, but being fully God, He rose again, and He lives. He lives to give you hope. He lives to give you comfort. He lives to give you victory. He lives to give you joy, and to make your joy complete.
Are you tired from the journey? He lives to give you rest.
